I am passionate about innovation, technology, data, and the outdoors
About Christian
Born in Bolivia, I grew up and lived most of my life in La Paz. The surrounding mountains and their peaks reaching above 6,000 m (19,685 ft) provide great scenarios, a vast extension to explore, and a perfect playground for the adventurous. Here is where my passion for mountain sports started, where you get challenged physically and mentally.
When not having fun outdoors, I enjoy the challenges of working with data. From getting the information together and organizing it to further developing it and transforming it into something insightful and actionable, the strategy and process for going from point A to point B is always a fun puzzle. Data-driven business cases, analytics, reporting, and different tools are part of the menu.
My background
I compare my background to a taco (yes, I also like tacos). Solid background knowledge is the tortilla that wraps and holds all the good stuff together, the meat is my practical ability to execute, and the toppings are the different skills needed to take over various projects. Don’t forget the hot sauce for a spicy result!
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Business Entrepreneurship and Digital Technology Management. Throughout my studies, different topics set the foundation and mindset about the value that a broader theoretical knowledge can provide.
Over the years, I have gained expertise in many different programs/tools and acquired an array of skillsets that enable me to effectively move from the conceptual stage to the execution. In other words, the theoretical background, combined with the ability to execute, unlocks valuable, strategic, and efficient results.
My Toolkit
Even with the best plan or recipe, it’s hard to make and execute something without the right tools. To different degrees of expertise, my tools repertoire includes:
Moving from the general knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, it is worth mentioning specific applications within some of them; for Excel, beyond the usual formulas, pivot tables, etc., I have experience with Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA, Solver, etc.
In terms of programming languages, I am familiar with Python to some degree, but my strength resides in R; I have extensively used the packages included in the tidyverse, lubridate, tidytext, rmarkdown, to some degree, the basics of shiny apps, and many other packages that come handy
I have been using an assortment of BI and analytics tools. Still, my experience is more noticeable in DOMO (magic ETL, cards, dashboards, beast modes, data fusion, views, workbench, different connectors, user administration, etc.) and Power BI (power query, DAX, dashboards, charts, etc.)
Last, SQL is a vital component of any data analytics toolkit. While the capabilities of a management system are many, my experience is related to querying data using different systems.
